Switching on the system

At first you have to switch on the ventilator. You can find the button on the right-hand side; push the button and regulate the airflow with the wheel. It is not necessary that you use full power - one-third is enough.

Every component you have to switch on is labeled with a number (from 1 to 8).

First, switch on the Argon laser (number 1) by pushing the black button to "on". Wait at least one minute, then turn the key around to "1". On the right you find the button for the laser module, switch it on (number 2).

Afterwards, switch on the three buttons (number 3,4 and 5) on the shelve above the monitor.

If you really need the metal halide lamp, switch it on separately.

Go on with the stand power supply 232 (number 6).

Think about which lasers you really need and switch them on (number 7). Please leave the key in the horizontal position, use only the switches.

Last, start the PC by pushing the sleep button on the keyboard (number 8) - if nothing happens you have to start the PC manually (under the desk).

After you have switched on all components you need to turn the trigger of the laser regulation unit to "laser run" in top position. You can do this shortly before you start your experiment. Turn the power adjustment knob clockwise until red LED comes on, then turn knob slightly counterclockwise until red LED is just off again and only green shows up.It is strongly recommend that the control light is "green". Red light shows that you are using high power and this is going to age the laser very fast.

NOTE: After you have turned the key of the Argon laser to "on" you have to wait at least 5 minutes before turning the laser regulation module to "laser run".

If you need the CO2 and temperature module you can switch it on and off at every point of time. You can find it on the shelf behind the ventilator.

  3. Shut down windows via "Start" > "Shut down...".
  4. Switch off every component, starting with number 7 and ending with number 1 (backwards to the beginning).
  5. Don’t shutdown the PC - instead logout and push the sleep button (number 8) on the keyboard
