[edit] "SIFFY" - Slot Is Free For You
This procedure was developed for two main reasons:
- The user who needs to step back from a slot on a short term notice might get lucky to not have to pay for that slot after all.
- Other users (eg. users with fixed samples) get the chance to spend more time on an otherwise heavily booked system.
[edit] To offer a slot
If a user finds that he/she can't make it to an already booked slot and it is 24h or less before that slot already, that user is asked to do the following:
- Cancel the slot out of the booking database.
- Send an email to lmf-user(@)mpi-cbg.de. It only needs to contain following info in the subject field:
- SIFFY, name of system, time of offered slot (eg. Subject: SIFFY CO1 Olympus FV1000 tomorrow 10-11am)
- Important: if the offered slot was the last of the day and it gets canceled within 24 hours of the slot starting (ie.: at a time when the previous user has little no chance to know there has been a late cancellation), it is STILL the responsibility of the user who booked the slot originally to switch off the system, if no one else takes it!!!
[edit] To take an offered slot
If a slot is offered in the SIFFY emails and another user is would like to take it, that user is asked to do the following:
- Answer the SIFFY email with "I'll take it" in the text field (don't change the subject field).
- Log into the LMF/IPF booking database, go to the respective system and book the offered slot as normal.
- Important: by officially taking the slot, that new user also takes over the responsibility to switch off the system if needed!!!
