PoL Microscopy

Cluster of Excellence Physics of Life

The Physics of Life (PoL) Microscopy is a core facility which offers state-of-the-art technology for imaging across scales. We have a wide range of instruments to support experiments involving a variety of model organisms (live and fixed), cultured cells, and organoids.

Microscopy techniques in biology and biophysics offer a tremendously powerful and complex toolbox requiring highly specific expertise for optimal usage and maintenance. At PoL Microscopy we provide imaging services from scientists for scientists which include both optimally maintained instrumentation as well as application training and support.

Techniques

  • Wide-field microscopy (Fluorescence, Bright-field, DIC)
  • Laser scanning confocal microscopy
  • Spinning disc confocal microscopy
  • Light-sheet microscopy
  • Photo-manipulation (FRAP, Photo-conversion/activation, Ablation, Cutting)
  • Extended resolution (Airyscan, Optical Pixel Reassignment)
  • Spectral imaging (FRET, Linear unmixing)
  • Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy
  • Force Measurements (AFM, Optical Tweezers)

Services

  • Provide and maintain a suitable mix of state-of-the-art instruments for high-end optical imaging, force-spectroscopy and manipulation experiments.
  • Project consultation (choice of optimal instrument, workflow design)
  • Teach theory and provide hands-on-training
  • Customize and develop instrumentation and workflows
